Desjardin Gall Stone Forceps are excellent gastroenterology instruments also known as “Rochester gall stone forceps.” The forceps are shaped like artery forceps. It comes in varying lengths of curvature depends on your surgery needs. It features oval-shaped jaws with a hole in the middle. Jaws are smooth, and some patterns have serrations. It has no locking mechanism because the locking mechanism may break the stone inside, which is harmful to the patients. These forceps are designed in such a way that it easily scoop stones from the viscera. The hole in the jaws and edge serrations assure firm grasping of the stones. The excellent gastroenterological forceps are also helpful for grasping the cervical polyp or intrauterine polyp.
It is useful not only for the surgeons during cholidocolithotomy to remove gall stones from the bile duct but also to remove stones from the gallbladder (cholecystectomy) if the gallbladder is stuck in port due to stones in it. The unique Desjardin pattern is used to remove stones even from the bladder and ureter. So, surgeons can safely use this instrument to hold the endometrial polyp during polyp extraction (polypectomy).
