What is Orthopedic Surgery?

Orthopedic procedures target diseases and injuries of the bone and skeleton. Apart from major joint procedures or fracture restoration treatments, there are intricate procedures that operate on the spinal columns or hip bones. These procedures require high-precision instruments that can deliver the purpose of the incision or any other maneuver the surgeon is performing.

Following is a list of orthopedic surgical instruments that GerMedUSA Inc. manufactures.

Foot and Ankles

•    Bone clamps

These are grasping tools that keep the bone in place. The configuration of the tool being used depends on the size of the bone. The variations used during these procedures are Bone fragment clamps, Lewin forceps, Bone holding clamp 6” with measuring caliper.

 •    Retractors

The variations used in foot and ankle procedures are Gelpi, WeitLaner, and Modified-mini-retractors. These are used to retract the tissue covering the bone for better visibility and access.

Knee Surgery

 •    Retractors

As their name implies, surgeons use retractors to hold back underlying organs and keep the incision or wound open during surgical procedures. The same is true when it comes to using retractors during knee surgery.  They hold the organs and muscles in place while the surgeon operates on the bone. The most commonly used variations of the retractor are Hohmann, Chandler, Cobra, or PCl retractors.

 •    Distractors

The application of this variation is to keep the femur away from the tibia. This is useful in keeping the bones in place by applying pressure. This helps in extremity reposition without pressuring any surrounding parts of the surgical site.

 •    Knee retractors

This is specifically designed for knee procedures. This tool helps hold tissue away from the tibia or the femur. This is used in knee restructuring, knee surgery, removal or restoration of a torn meniscus, collateral ligament surgeries, removal of inflamed synovial tissue, and similar procedures.

 •    Surgical spreaders

This instrument is used to spread bones during an orthopedic procedure. The variations used in surgery are femoral tibial, calibrated tibial, ortho spreaders, or vertebra spreaders.

Orthopedic surgical instruments

 •    Bone hooks

These are instruments used for bone manipulation and adjustments. The orientations used are Caroll Bonen hook, Lombardi, proximal elevation bone hooks.

 •    Tendon passer

This instrument is used to treat tendons across several surgical processes. All the instruments are being manufactured with German stainless material and are available in multiple variations as well as patterns. This is a diverse tool with a curved or straight design to be used in different types of orthopedic procedures.
